Sunflower Seed Oil Information
Colorado Mills Sunflower Oil

Our Sunflower Oil is crafted from high oleic sunflower seeds grown right in the High Plains region of the U.S.

Versatile and delicious, this oil is ideal for sautéing, frying, baking, or as a flavorful base for salad dressings and dips.

Our oil is extracted naturally—never with solvents—using a gentle pressing method that preserves its purity. We also skip the winterization step after refining, so you may notice a bit of sunflower wax settling at the bottom of the bottle. This is completely natural and ensures the oil retains its authentic character without impacting its performance in your kitchen.

What is High Oleic?

High Oleic (HO) sunflower oil outshines all other oils, including olive oil for culinary use by providing optimal health benefits, a clean neutral taste, and performance, while remaining trans-fat free.

The vitamin E level is three times greater than olive oil. The HO sunflower is developed through standard breeding techniques and therefore naturally NON-GMO. HO sunflower oil works extremely well in commercial cooking and frying with a smoke point of > 450º F and a great taste.

Additionally, the natural high stability of HO sunflower oil enhances product fry-life and shelf-life.

Debunking Myths

Healthy Sunflower Oil
Isn’t Sunflower Oil Bad for you?

There is a lot of information on the web that claims sunflower oil should be avoided and is bad for you. What these articles don’t tell you is that there are several types of sunflower oil.

There are three types of sunflower oil; high oleic, mid oleic and linoleic sunflower oil. The most common sunflower oil on the grocery store shelf today is linoleic sunflower oil. This is the oil that should be avoided as it is very heavy in polyunsaturated fat. Most of this type of oil comes from Europe where there is a very small crop of high oleic grown.

Our sunflower oil is high oleic and completely a different product than linoleic and mid oleic sunflower oil.  Our high oleic sunflower oil is far healthier and superior to linoleic and mid oleic sunflower oil.

Other Cooking Oils

Other cooking oils use harmful chemicals in their products.  We take a different approach.  Our high oleic sunflower oil is gently pressed to extract the oil out of the seed.  We use no solvents in removing the oil from the seed ensuring a healthier oil for you.

TBHQ – tert-Butylhydroquinone

An additive to enhance stability during use and shelf life. It has been shown to damage DNA and have ill effects to the digestive system of lab animals. Found in biodiesel as a corrosion inhibitor, in perfumes – to lower evaporation rate, varnishes, lacquers and resins. TBHQ is a derivative of butane.

PDMS – Polydimethylsiloxane

An additive to prevent oil from foaming while under extreme heat. PDMS is a silicone that is used in the making of plastics, shampoo, caulking, lubricants and heat resistant tiles.

Why Our Oil is Good for You

Free Fatty Acids

There are 3 types of common fat in a diet. Monounsaturated (oleic) fats are essential in a balanced diet while large amounts of polyunsaturated (non-oleic) and saturated fats should be avoided.
